ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 18 -- United States Patent no. 12,474,231, issued on Nov. 18, was assigned to California Institute of Technology (Pasadena, Calif.).
"Autonomous electro-optical system to monitor in real-time the full spatial motion (rotation and displacement) of civil structures" was invented by Shervin Larigani Taghavi (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and Thomas H. Heaton (Pasadena, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An electro-optical device capable of identifying a target in the time series of the images so as to measure motion of a civil structure, such as a bridge, in response to forces (such as the weight of a vehicle traversing the bridge)."
