ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 18 -- United States Patent no. PP36,736, issued on June 10, was assigned to Board of Supervisors of Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College (Baton Rouge, La.).

"Sweetpotato plant named 'LA18-100'" was invented by Don R. LaBonte (Baton Rouge, La.), Arthur Q. Villordon (Chase, La.), Tara P. Smith (Chase, La.), Jeffrey Cole Gregorie (Chase, La.) and Imana Power (Baton Rouge, La.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A new variety of sweetpotato, identified as 'LA18-100,' is disclosed having resistance to both southern root-knot nematode and Streptomyces soil rot; an orange-fleshed storage root, copper to light rose skin, early crops, and high yields."
