WASHINGTON, July 24 -- Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued a proposed rule called: Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards; Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations; Parts and Accessories Necessary for Safe Operation; Speed Limiting Devices; Withdrawal.

The proposed rule was published in the Federal Register on July 24 by Sue Lawless, Assistant Administrator.

Summary: FMCSA and NHTSA withdraw the September 7, 2016 joint NPRM that proposed to require that heavy vehicles (those with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 11, 793 kilograms (26, 000 pounds)) be equipped with a speed limiting device that is maintained at a set speed.
