Maoist top commander Deva surrenders before Telangana PoliceHyderabad, Jan 3 (UNI) In a major setback to naxalites, People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) senior commander Deva, a close aide of slain Maoist leader Madivi Hidma, has surrendered before the Telangana police, security sources said on Saturday.An official announcement of the surrender is expected by Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy in Hyderabad on Saturday evening.Deva had taken over as commander of the PLGA's first battalion after Madivi Hidma was killed in an encounter in the Maredumilli forests of Andhra Pradesh last year.His surrender is being viewed by security agencies as a significant blow to Maoist operations in the region.The 48-year-old Maoist leader belongs to Puvvarthi village in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. He was carrying a reward of Rs.25 lakh in Telangana and Rs.50 lakh in Chhattisgarh.Both Deva and Hidma joined the Maoist movement around the same time and played a key role in battalion-level activities.Over the years, Deva emerged as a prominent figure in the Maoist party, working closely with party chief Tippiri Tirupathi alias Devji and Telangana state secretary Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar.UNI KNR PRSहैदराबाद, 03 जनवरी (वार्ता) नक्सली संगठन पीपुल्स लिबरेशन गुरिल्ला आर्मी के स्वयंभू वरिष्ठ कमांडर देवा ने तेलंगाना पुलिस के सामने आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया है। देवा को हाल ही मुठभेड़ में मारे गए नक्सली नेता माडवी हिडमा का करीबी सहयोगी माना जाता है। सुरक्षा सूत्रों ने शनिवार को यह जानकारी दी।
पुलिस महानिदेशक बी. शिवधर रेड्डी के यहां शाम को इस आत्मसमर्पण की आधिकारिक घोषणा किए जाने की उम्मीद है। पिछले साल आंध्र प्रदेश के मारेडुमिल्ली जंगलों में एक मुठभेड़ में माडवी हिडमा के मारे जाने के बाद देवा ने पीएलजीए की पहली बटालियन के कमांडर के रूप में कार्यभार संभाला था।
उसके हथियार डालने को सुरक्षा एजेंसियों द्वारा क्षेत्र में माओवादी अभियानों के लिए एक बड़े झटके के रूप में देखा जा रहा है।
यह 48 वर्षीय नक्सली नेता छत्तीसगढ़ के सुकमा जिले के पुव्वर्ती गांव का रहने वाला है। उस पर तेलंगाना में 25 लाख रुपये और छत्तीसगढ़ में 50 लाख रुपये का इनाम था।
