Farmers in Nashik protest falling onion prices, block roadsNashik, Feb 4 (UNI) Farmers in Yeola taluka of Nashik district in Maharashtra staged a strong protest against the continuous fall in onion prices, blocking the Yeola-Vaijapur highway near Shivtirtha and bringing traffic in both directions to a complete halt.The protesting farmers raised slogans against the government and expressed their anger over the prevailing market conditions.Onion prices have been steadily declining over the past several days, causing great distress among farmers. Many had stored their produce for months in the hope of a price rise, but the prolonged slump has intensified their frustration.In a rare show of unity, all farmer organisations in Nashik district came together to protest the onion price issue in Yeola tehsil.For the past five to six months, onion prices have shown no signs of recovery and have instead continued to fall.Farmers alleged that after the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) released onions into the market, prices initially rose to Rs 24 per kg but have since declined to around Rs 21 per kg, indicating a further downward trend at market committees.On February 4, the minimum price at the Lasalgaon mandi was Rs 500 per quintal, with an average price of Rs 1,270.At the Pimpalgaon Baswant mandi, the minimum price stood at Rs 400 and the average at Rs 1,175, while at the Umrane mandi, the minimum price was Rs 500 and the average Rs 1,100.UNI BHG SQ ARNनासिक, 04 फरवरी (वार्ता) महाराष्ट्र में नासिक जिले के येवला तालुका में प्याज की कीमतों में लगातार हो रही गिरावट से आक्रोशित किसानों ने बुधवार को जोरदार विरोध प्रदर्शन करते हुए यातायात जाम कर दिया।
प्रदर्शनकारी किसानों ने शिवतीर्थ के पास येवला-वैजापुर हाईवे को पूरी तरह जाम कर दिया, जिससे सड़क के दोनों तरफ वाहनों की लंबी कतारें लग गईं और यातायात घंटों तक ठप रहा। इस दौरान विभिन्न किसान संगठनों ने एकजुट होकर सरकार के खिलाफ नारेबाजी की और बाजार की मौजूदा स्थिति पर गहरा रोष व्यक्त किया।
किसानों का कहना है कि पिछले पांच-छह महीनों से प्याज की कीमतों में कोई सुधार नहीं हुआ है, बल्कि दाम लगातार गिर रहे हैं, जिससे उनकी लागत निकालना भी मुश्किल हो गया है।
किसानों ने आरोप लगाया कि भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कृषि सहकारी विपणन संघ (नेफेड) के बाजार में प्याज जारी करने के बाद कीमतें शुरू में 24 रुपये प्रति किलो तक पहुंची थीं, लेकिन अब यह गिरकर 21 रुपये प्रति किलो पर आ गई हैं।
