Singapore/New Delhi, Jan. 14 -- Popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, who drowned in Singapore on September 19 last year, was "severely intoxicated" at the time of death and had refused a life jacket before leaping off the yacht, police investigators have revealed, testifying at a court in Singapore.

The 53-year-old drank alcohol and refused a life vest, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) David Lim told the coroner's inquiry into the singer's death.

Garg, who died near Lazarus Island, had 333 milligrams of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system, enough to impair coordination, reported the Straits Times.

The current drink driving limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100ml of blood.
