Pankaj JainNew Delhi, Jan. 16 -- In a major step towards cleaning the Yamuna River and strengthening city''s flood management infrastructure, Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma on Friday launched a new state-of-the-art 'Water Master' machine along with 3 Hopper Barges at the Najafgarh Drain, which accounts for nearly 70 percent of the total pollution load entering the Yamuna.
Imported from Finland, the advanced Water Master machine has been deployed in the Najafgarh Drain (earlier Sahibi River) to remove 30 to 40-year-old accumulated silt using high-end cutting and suction technology.
The process allows water to flow back immediately into the drain while the extracted silt is collected separately.
