Bhubaneswar, April 30 -- Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday asserted that real empowerment of women cannot be confined merely to financial independence, but must extend across social, economic, and political spheres to ensure their rightful place in society.

Initiating a debate during the special session of the Odisha Assembly on women's participation in Indian democracy, Majhi said women's empowerment has been discussed by political parties for decades, but the concept has often been narrowly interpreted.
