Bhubaneswar, Feb. 16 -- Migratory birds of trans-Himalayan region have embarked on their homeward journey from Bhitarakanika national park in Odisha's Kendrapara district after a four-month-long winter sojourn.

As many as 1,52,762 feathered guests of 106 species had made their flight towards Bhitarkanika wetland sites for their winter sojourn to avoid harsh winter, said an official of Rajnagar Mangrove (wildlife) Forest Division.

Every year, birds fly thousands of miles to Bhitarakanika to escape the harsh winter in northern Asia and some central European countries.
