Hyderabad, March 23 -- Telangana Labour and Employment Minister Vivek Venkataswamy on Monday informed the Assembly that thousands of people in the state are engaged as gig workers, earning their livelihood through platform-based jobs.
Replying during Question Hour, the Minister said gig workers are typically associated with digital platform aggregators and are treated as independent service providers rather than conventional employees. As a result, provisions related to minimum wages under existing laws, such as the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, and the Code on Wages, 2019, do not directly apply to them at present.
