Bengaluru, May 2 -- Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa on Saturday mounted a blistering attack on the Congress government in Karnataka, alleging that its guarantee schemes had pushed the state towards a "serious debt trap" and triggered alarming stress on the state's finances.

Citing the union Finance Ministry's Monthly Economic Review for April 2026, Vijayendra claimed that Karnataka was witnessing worsening fiscal indicators, with more than 15 per cent of the state's revenue receipts being spent on interest payments while recording a revenue deficit of 0.7 per cent.

He said the report had effectively exposed the "fragile financial condition" of Karnataka under the Siddaramaiah government.
