Ghaziabad, Feb. 3 -- The Vigilance Establishment team arrested Niwari Police Station Inspector Jaipal Singh Rawat while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 on Tuesday. The inspector reportedly threatened a former village head with jail unless the money was paid.

According to vigilance officials, a trap was laid after the victim lodged a complaint. When the former village head handed over the bribe inside the inspector's office, the team caught the inspector red-handed.

Inspector Rawat is a 2013 batch sub-inspector who was promoted to inspector about a year ago. He was previously posted in surveillance duty in Hapur.
