Kolkata, Jan. 23 -- Vice-President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, attended the Parakram Diwas celebrations at Victoria Memorial Hall here to mark the 129th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on Friday .
This was his first visit to Kolkata after assuming office as Vice-President.
Addressing the gathering, Radhakrishnan said Parakram Diwas is not just a tribute to Netaji but a way of passing on courage and values from one generation to another.
Recalling Netaji's life, he said Bose had consciously chosen sacrifice over comfort, including turning down a prestigious Indian Civil Services post and giving up high office to pursue complete freedom for the country.
