Lucknow, May 8 -- Veteran communist leader, women's rights activist, and teacher by profession, Com Asha Mishra, passed away on Friday morning. She was 79.

The comrade breathed her last at around 1055 hrs. Mishra was involved in the Left movement in the Communist stronghold of Kanpur from her early student life.

She was involved with several women's organizations in the state capital and led protests over women's issues regularly.

Mishra held the post of CPI of the national council member before she fell ill last year in June. She was also the state executive member of the CPI.
