Shillong, May 1 -- The body of a 14-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh who was swept away by strong currents near Weisawdong falls at Sohra, a popular tourist destination in Meghalaya, was recovered on Thursday morning, police said.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the girl allegedly slipped while taking a picture near the falls, Vivek Syiem, the district police chief of East Khasi Hills, said.
Syiem said the girl was visiting with her family from Firozabad district in Uttar Pradesh on holiday and went down to see the waterfalls on Wednesday.
He said the body was retrieved by the search and rescue team of Meghalaya Police.
