New Delhi, Feb. 3 -- The United States has filed 'denaturalisation action' against an Indian, Gurmeet Singh, and initiated proceedings for stripping him of his US citizenship, for having raped a woman and concealing the information in his naturalisation application, the US Department of Justice said.
A denaturalization action is the legal process where the federal government revokes the citizenship of a naturalized person, typically due to fraud, illegal procurement, or material misrepresentation during the immigration process. It applies only to citizens who were not born in the US.
