Mumbai, Aug. 19 -- Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Republican Party of India (A) chief Ramdas Athawale was conferred the Kohinoor of India Award at a ceremony in London.

The honour recognised his five-decade-long advocacy for social and economic justice benefiting the Dalit, the underprivileged, and the Bahujan communities.

Industrialists Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Group, and Sanjay Hinduja, Head of Hinduja Group, presented the award to Athawale yesterday. The event was organised by Dainik Lokmat as part of the Lokmat Global Economic Convention, with the Group's Vijay Darda and Rajendra Darda in attendance.
