Kolkata, July 29 -- Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar has accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of making false allegations against the BJP-led Central government and the Delhi Police over an alleged incident of torture involving a child and his mother.

He also demanded that the police register an FIR and launch a thorough probe into what he called a "scripted controversy."

Majumdar, who serves as Minister of State for Education and is in charge of development in northeastern states, claimed in a social media post that Banerjee had once again been "exposed" for spreading lies and turning a "completely fake and baseless story into a political weapon."
