Arti BaliNew Delhi, Feb. 18 -- The United Nations' top technology official warned that the world risks fracturing into a "K-shaped society" where a handful of actors architect artificial intelligence systems while the rest inhabit spaces designed by others, as the global AI divide threatens to eclipse even the digital gap that preceded it.

Dr. Amandeep Gill, UN Undersecretary-General and the Secretary-General's Special Envoy on Technology, pointed out stark inequalities in AI infrastructure would determine who governs the intelligent systems upon which modern societies will depend.
