Agartala, May 3 -- The ongoing heavy pre-monsoon rainfall and thunderstorm in Tripura has caused significant damage to crops, with an estimated value of Rs 59.17 crore, impacting 32,895 farmers across the state.

Preliminary assessment indicates that approximately 6,105 hectares of agricultural and horticultural land have been affected, resulting in an estimated production loss of 21,635 metric tonnes, said Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

He said between April 27 and 29, the state experienced an average rainfall of 133.9 mm, with Kamalpur recording the highest at 283 mm, followed by Bishramganj at 278 mm and Khowai at 230 mm, which badly affected the agricultural production.
