Agartala, Feb. 9 -- A local farmer sustained serious injuries last evening when he confronted an elephant herd while tending to his cattle in Champlai area of the Chakmaghat forest range of Teliamura in Tripura's Khowai district.

Police said the injured individual has been identified as Dhananjay Biswas (60), a resident of the area. He had entered the forest that afternoon to graze his cattle when he was unexpectedly charged by the herd of tusker elephants. In a frantic effort to escape, Biswas leaped into a forest ravine, resulting in severe injuries across multiple areas of his body.
