Agartala, March 5 -- The Tripura government has announced plans to construct four elephant passes in Mungiakami area of Atharamura hill range in Khowai district, aiming to ensure the safe migration of wild elephants and minimise the risk of conflicts between humans and elephants.

Mungiakami, situated at the base of the Atharamura Range, was recently designated an official elephant corridor after two elephants were tragically killed in collisions with speeding trains in 2024. This incident highlighted significant safety concerns for wildlife in the area.
