Agartala, Sept. 20 -- A deeply troubling event has sent shockwaves through Mirza area of Udaipur under Tripura's Gomati district ahead of Prime Minister's visit, following the discovery of the charred body of a housewife identified as Anjali Sarkar (35) last evening.

Despite lodging a specific complaint against the culprits, including a nephew of the local BJP MLA Jitendra Mujumdar, the police have yet to arrest anybody, which sparked a reaction across the state.

The victim is a mother of two children, and the wife of Mason Pankaj Sarkar.

Sarkar said he had repeatedly sought police protection amidst threats, blackmail, and assaults allegedly involving local youths linked to the family of a ruling party legislator.
