Shimla, March 6 -- In a step aimed at promoting clean energy and reducing operational costs, the Himachal Pradesh Transport Department has launched a solar-powered electric vehicle charging system at its Directorate in Shimla.
A spokesperson for the department told UNI that the initiative is part of the state government's broader goal of transforming Himachal Pradesh into a green energy state by March 31, 2026.
Under the pilot project, a 15-kilowatt solar power plant has been installed at the Transport Directorate at Shimla. Electricity generated through the solar panels would be used to charge electric vehicles of the department, eliminating the need to pay electricity bills for charging its fleet.
