Etah, Nov. 3 -- A joyous wedding ceremony turned into a scene of tragedy in Umaraiyapur village under Pilua police station limits when a father of the bride was run over and killed by a pickup truck meant to carry dowry items. The incident occurred just before his daughter's vidaai (farewell ceremony), casting a shadow of grief over the entire celebration, police said today.
According to reports, the incident took place early last morning. A wedding procession (baraat) had arrived from Aharmai village in the Nidhauli Kalan area for the marriage of 55-year-old Thaan Singh's daughter, Anjali. Most of the rituals had been completed during the night, and the kanyadaan ceremony was underway when tragedy struck.
