Siliguri, Oct. 6 -- A tourist, identified as Himadri Purkait, a resident of South 24 Parganas, is feared killed as he has been missing since the disaster struck the Darjeeling hills in the wee hours last night, official sources said today.
Though the search operation continued for the missing tourist, sources said Himadri Purkait may have been swept away from Lower Sonada in the Balason River Valley since the disaster struck yesterday.
"It is apprehended that he has been swept away by the river, and search operations are ongoing," a communique, which listed the total number of tourists, stated.
They said some tourists were still staying at different places in Darjeeling (not necessarily stranded, some are staying willingly).
