Bhubaneswar, Feb. 5 -- In a significant setback to the banned CPI (Maoist) organisation, Odisha Police recorded the second surrender of an Area Committee Member (ACM)-rank Maoist within 24 hours, highlighting the growing impact of sustained security operations and the state's surrender-and-rehabilitation policy.

Mamata Podiami, an underground ACM-ranked cadre of the CPI (Maoist) from Chhattisgarh, surrendered before the Koraput police on Thursday.

The surrender took place in the presence of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Western Range; DIG, BSF SHQ Koraput; Superintendent of Police, Koraput; Commandant, BSF; and SDPO, Jeypore.
