Mumbai, Oct. 15 -- Sixty-one Maoist insurgents, including Communist Party of India (Maoist) politburo member Mallojula Venugopal Rao alias Sonu alias Bhupathi, formally laid down arms and surrendered before Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today at the Gadchiroli district police headquarters.

The 61 Maoists who surrendered and laid down arms at Gadchiroli police headquarters include CPI (Maoist) politburo member Mallojula Venugopal Rao (70) two Maoist state zonal committee members, 10 divisional committee members and cadres from Maharashtra as well as Chhattisgarh.
