Gadchiroli, Oct. 15 -- Senior CPI (Maoist) Polit Bureau member Mallojula Venugopal, alias Bhupati, on Wednesday surrendered to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Gadchiroli, along with 60 of his associates.

The surrender took place during a special programme held at the Gadchiroli Police Headquarters, where Bhupati formally handed over his weapons to the Chief Minister.

The Naxals surrendered along with their 54 weapons, including seven AK-47s and nine INSAS rifles.

Welcoming Bhupati and his followers into the mainstream, the chief minister provided them with copies of the Indian Constitution, a symbolic gesture encouraging their integration into democratic society.
