Chennai, Oct. 17 -- In a major operation, the Q Branch wing of the Tamil Nadupolice today foiled an attempt to smuggle about 900 kg of beedi leaves to Sri Lankaand arrested on person in this connection.
Acting on a tip off a special team on patrol, conducted vehicles checks at a coastalareas in the southern Thoothukudi district and intercepted a vehicle.
Upon search, the team seized 27 bundles of beedi leves each weighing 30 kg.
Apart from this, they also seized three bundles of cutting beeding leaves eachweighing 30 kgs from the vehicle and arrested the driver.
