Chennai, Jan. 20 -- The Tamil Nadu government today urged the Centre to withdraw the newVB-G-RAM-G scheme which increased the state's financial burden by Rs 5,000 crore and demandallocation of more funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(MGNREGS).

In his customary New Year address to the State Assembly, Governor R N Ravi said the unionGovernment has announced a new scheme titled 'Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar andAjeevika Mission (Gramin)', which undermines the fundamental objective of the MGNREGSwhich intended to ensure wage employment for crores of poor and underprivileged people inrural areas across the country, particularly women and the Adi Dravidar communities.
