Kolkata, Jan. 21 -- A fresh political controversy erupted in West Bengal on Wednesday after Trinamool Congress MLA Manirul Islam made a threatening remark against the Election Commission of India amid the ongoing standoff over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

In a video, Islam is seen speaking in front of a crowd, and threatening that the poll panel would be "taught a lesson" and even "hunted down from under the earth," drawing sharp reactions from the Opposition.
