Kolkata, Aug. 12 -- In a bizarre incident this afternoon, three women allegedly tried to set themselves on fire near one of the main entrances of the Calcutta High Court in central Kolkata, reportedly fearing that their names would be struck off the electoral rolls following the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in West Bengal.

Alert security personnel intervened just in time, detaining the women moments after one of them began pouring kerosene on herself with the help of the others.

The trio - identified as Purnima Halder, Sutishna Sapui, and Bandana Nashkar, all residents under Bishnupur Police Station in South 24 Parganas - were immediately taken to the state-run S.S.K.M. Medical College and Hospital for a medica...
