Gadag, Feb. 20 -- A series of idol defacement incidents at three temples in Gadag district of Karnataka has triggered tension among devotees and prompted an intensive police probe, officials said on Thursday.

Gadag Superintendent of Police Rohan Jagadeesh said that incidents were reported at three separate locations within a radius of about 30 to 35 kilometres.

"It has been observed that in three separate places within a distance of about 30 and 35 kilometres with respect to three temples, there has been some defacement with respect to the idols. Cases have been registered in the police station and an investigation is underway. We will soon catch the accused in this regard," he said.
