Ghazipur, Oct. 19 -- Three teenage girls drowned while bathing in the Ganga River in Ghazipur district this morning. The bodies of two girls have been recovered, while the search for the third is still ongoing. The incident took place at the Aswa Ghat in the Karanda police station area.
Seven girls from Ramjanpur Sikandarpur village went to bathe in the river around 5:30 am as part of a daily ritual during the holy month of Kartik. Around 6 am, all seven were caught in the strong river current and started drifting away.
Local fishermen, hearing the girls' screams, jumped into the river and rescued four of them. However, three girls went missing. A rescue operation was launched immediately with the help of local divers.
