Hyderabad, Jan. 30 -- The Congress on Friday strongly criticised the BJP-led Central government, alleging that the proposed census exercise is "not a caste census but merely a population census," and accused it of deliberately sidelining Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and several other communities.

Addressing a press meet at Gandhi Bhavan, Rudra Santosh Kumar, General Secretary of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), said the Centre had taken a "U-turn" on its commitment to a caste census by excluding any direct reference to caste in the census questionnaire.
