Thiruvananthapuram, Feb. 9 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillors here have been invited to attend a special reception hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on February 12, party sources said on Monday.

The invitation to the councillors is perceived as a significant gesture following the BJP's improved performance in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation elections. BJP leader V V Rajesh was elected as the Mayor in December last year in a first for the party in any corporation in Kerala.

According to party sources, most of the BJP councillors will travel to the national capital together by train as part of a collective programme.
