Tehran, April 19 -- Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz escalated again after Iranian gunboats once again opened fire on a commercial tanker traversing the waterway, according to the UK Maritime Traffic Organization (UKMTO), the maritime authority which has responsibility for the region.

Marking the second such incident, the attack came just hours after a tanker was struck by the IRGC. According to the UKMTO, a container ship was struck by an "unknown projectile" about 25 nautical miles off the coast of Oman, though it did not comment on who the culprits were.

There have been no reports of fatalities, fires, or any environmental damage, as authorities are investigating the incident, the shipping body added.
