Ch. Sambhajinagar, Jan. 16 -- Tension gripped Ch. Sambhajinagar on Friday as counting of votes for the 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra began, with a confrontation breaking out at the counting centre set up at the Government Polytechnic College.

According to police officials, the situation escalated around 10 am when a large number of workers belonging to the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) attempted to enter the counting centre. Many of them did not possess valid identity cards issued by the Election Commission, following which police personnel on duty stopped them from entering the secured area.
