New Delhi/Kolkata, March 31 -- Indian tennis icon Leander Paes on Tuesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the run-up to the 2026 West Bengal assembly polls.
Paes joined the BJP at the party's headquarters in Delhi in the presence of senior party leaders and union ministers.
After joining the BJP fold, Paes said he now wanted to serve the nation and the youth and thanked the saffron outfit for giving him the opportunity to work in a new field.
"For 40 years in my life, I have played for the country, represented India in tournaments like the Davis Cup and Olympics to earn respect. Now, this is a new field. My brothers have bestowed a responsibility, and I want to serve the nation and the youth," he said.
