Hyderabad, Dec. 20 -- Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Saturday called for the successful conduct of National Road Safety Month in January, with the goal of drastically reducing road accidents and preventing loss of life.

Chairing a video conference at the Secretariat with district collectors, the minister, along with Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj and Transport Commissioner Ilambarthi, reviewed the action plan for the state-wide campaign.

Prabhakar said Telangana recorded 25,934 road accidents last year, claiming 7,949 lives, with reckless driving and violation of traffic rules being the main causes.
