Hyderabad, Jan. 28 -- Telangana is set to host the 74th B.N. Mullik Memorial All India Police Football Championship from March 23 to April 5.

As many as 53 teams from across India are expected to compete in the event, announced DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy here on Wednesday.

Reviewing preparations here, Reddy highlighted Telangana's football legacy, noting that five players from the state were part of India's 1956 Melbourne Olympics team, most of them serving in the police force. "Hosting this championship is an opportunity to revive football interest among police personnel," he said.

The tournament will feature 125 matches at venues including GMC Balayogi Stadium (Gachibowli), HFC Ground (Aziz Nagar), and Srinidhi FC Ground (Moinabad).
