Hyderabad, March 30 -- The Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday passed a resolution urging the Central government to impose a ban on Paraquat Dichloride, a widely used weedicide, citing serious health risks to farmers and agricultural workers.
The resolution was moved by Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao, who described Paraquat Dichloride as a highly hazardous and lethal chemical already banned in several countries.
Addressing the House, the Minister expressed concern over the growing number of health complications among farmers and agricultural labourers due to its usage.
He noted that several deaths have been reported as a result of exposure to the chemical.
