Shillong, July 19 -- Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh has expressed concern on the use of pesticides in local farming in the state.
Lyndoh's statement is significant following the death of a 15-year-old student Shailynti Marngar from Mawriang Tyrnai village in Eastern West Khasi Hills district, after she and her family members had consumed of pesticide-laced tomatoes on July 13.
In fact, most of the family members of the victim including her parents and siblings fell ill after consuming the tomatoes. However, they survived after treatment at the Community Health Centre in Mairang.
