Kolkata, Feb. 21 -- A primary school teacher allegedly opened fire at a group of children in Banipur village, Murshidabad district, on Friday evening after a ball from a nearby playground struck the wall of his home, police said.
The accused, identified as Samir Kumar Mondal, was arrested, and one child sustained a gunshot injury, officials said.
Residents said an open field lies adjacent to Mondal's house, where 10 to 12 children were playing cricket and football on Friday afternoon. During the game, the ball reportedly hit the door and wall of the teacher's residence several times, prompting Mondal to allegedly climb onto his rooftop and fire five to six rounds from an advanced air gun toward the children.
