Dhaka, Dec. 27 -- There are strong fears among Bangladesh's religious and ethnic minorities about their personal security ahead of the Feb 12 polls, the country's prominent minority rights group, the Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad (Unity Council), said urging the government to ensure their safety during the polls following harassment by extremists.

"In local or national elections, minority community members often face unnecessary threats, attacks and various forms of harassment simply for voting for or against a candidate.
