Pune, Dec. 30 -- In a stringent enforcement drive aimed at ensuring law and order ahead of the upcoming civic elections, the Warje-Malwadi Police have taken firm action against habitual offenders, resulting in a significant reduction in serious crimes in the area.

As many as 23 accused persons who failed to show improvement in their conduct were remanded to judicial custody for periods exceeding 15 days. In addition, 53 accused were fined a total of rupees 7.65 lakh, which has been deposited with the government treasury, police officials said here on Tuesday.

Among them, 17 individuals involved in illegal liquor trade were identified and detained for more than 15 days, while fines amounting to 3.75 lakh were recovered from liquor offender...
