Agartala, Feb. 15 -- Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha clarified that the state government has not imposed a ban on the use of the Roman script for the Kokborok language, spoken by tribal communities of the state. However, the preference is for developing an indigenous, Indian-origin script.
Dr Saha stated that no order prohibiting the Roman script for Kokborok has been issued by the government. He expressed concern about using a foreign script for an indigenous language, while acknowledging the awareness of community leaders about the issue.
