Mumbai, March 31 -- Senior IAS officer Ashwini Bhide has been appointed as the first woman Commissioner of the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC), marking a historic moment in the city's administrative landscape. She succeeds Bhushan Gagrani, who completes his tenure today.
Bhide will be taking charge today.
The decision was made last night during a meeting held between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. While other candidates, including Sanjay Mukherjee and Aseem Gupta, were considered, Bhide was appointed to the post due to her experience and administrative approach.
