Pathanamthitta, Jan. 11 -- Kerala Legislative Assembly Speaker A.N. Shamseer on Sunday said the Assembly Secretariat would examine the possibility of initiating disqualification proceedings against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil under relevant constitutional provisions if the charges against him are substantiated, following his arrest in connection with a fresh rape complaint.
The Speaker emphasised that elected representatives are expected to uphold public trust and moral responsibility, and said appropriate action would be taken strictly in accordance with the law. The remark came amid mounting political and public reactions to Mamkootathil being taken into custody in a high-profile sexual assault investigation.
